The Dark, Cold Secret Empty The Dark, Cold Secret

A husband and his pregnant wife drive home late one fall
night on a scenic wooded road that runs alongside a mountain. They were
traveling at sixty-seven miles-per-hour heading north to their hometown. The
windy road seemed to go on forever, turn after turn. On the left of the road
was a cliff, seven-hundred feet below water lies to devour its next victim.
With its high waves and the icy, cold water it can take its next victim in an
instant. The wooded road creaked as the cars’ wheels went over each board. The stilts
underneath the road shook as each wave tumbled against the wooden poles that
held the road above together.

Suddenly, a black figure emerges
through a thick fog crossing the road about ten feet away. In response, the
husband quickly slammed on the breaks. The breaks made an eerie screech from
the breaks pressing against the wheel as it turned. With no choice to avoid impact
with the figure, the husband swerved out of control into the river below them. Tumbling
at full speed to the icy, cold water below them you could hear their bloody,
spine-chilling screams from miles away, sounding like someone murdered them on
that fall night. Their last breathe of the thin, fresh air above them was their
last hope of survival.

The impact of the car hitting the
water, made the car shake with its rumble. Upon the first arrival to their
destination, the slap of the car to the water, just like a sumo wrestler belly
flopping in a local swimming pool, broke the glass. The shattering glass broke
into millions of pieces, into the car. The husband tried to save his wife
before it was too late.

The last breathe they took was
short and scared. The water filled quickly after the impact has begun. With the
thoughts of dying, their body knew it could not function without the air that
it used to have so much of. Their crumbling bodies used every ounce of oxygen
the body could find.

Reaching over for his wife’s hands,
he looked at her in disbelief. Inside of his thoughts, grew frustration and depression.
He gazed at his wife, with shattered glass every square inch of her body. He
knew his wife and his baby wouldn’t survive, no help was anywhere in this area.
He knew he would rather take a chance, and try to save them. He snatched his
wife’s hand and dragged her through the desecrated car that tumbled over seven
hundred feet. They were already being pulled down by gravity in the river,
pulling them under seventy-nine feet below sea level.

The last thoughts of dying became
reality, they knew they were hopeless. They wanted to stay with each other as
much as possible. Their used out body began to shrivel up like a plum in a hot
day. Their lungs tight; heart pumping faster by the second; and their legs
moving as fast as they could to reach the top of the surface. While starting to
swim in the icy, cold water, their bodies collapsed. The frostiness of the
water literally froze their internal organs. The child inside the wife was
frozen in mid-breathe of their mothers’ limited oxygen.
